Analytics – your website’s analytics is the best place to start keyword research. Find out how visitors discovered your website. What keywords or keyphrases they used to find your website? What search engines are bringing traffic to your website. What keywords your website ranked well in the search engines.

Keyword Tools – use Google’s Keyword Tool to find out what keywords are popular. Did you miss any keywords synonymous with your targeted keywords? Are you neglecting related keywords? Are the keywords you are targeting popular or should you look for different terms? With the keyword tool, you will get an idea of how much potential traffic a keyword opportunity represents.

In late March 2011, Google introduces +1 button that can help your friends, contacts, and others on the web find the best stuff when they search. On May 16, 2011, in response to Google’s +1 button (i.e. one month and two weeks after Google’s announcement of the +1 button in the search results), Bing added Facebook Like button to Bing’s search results. From what I can see here, Google and Bing will make use of the data gathered from +1, Facebook Like, and Tweets to rank a webpage. What can you expect from this latest addition to the search algorithm?

Search Engine Spammers will create fake user profiles at Facebook to like their own websites in order to game the system.

More sophisticated spammers will develop a bot that could Like or +1 a webpage from different location with different IP addresses, making it difficult for the search engines to determine whether the data gathered was real or artificial.

Today, Bing is bringing the collective IQ of the Web together with the opinions of the people you trust most, to bring the “Friend Effect” to search. Starting today, you can receive personalized search results based on the opinions of your friends by simply signing into Facebook. New features make it easier to see what your Facebook friends “like” across the Web, incorporate the collective know-how of the Web into your search results, and begin adding a more conversational aspect to your searches. Decisions can now be made with more than facts, now the opinions of your trusted friends and the collective wisdom of the Web.

Google has unveiled the first laptops that will run on its Chrome operating system at Google I/O 2011. The notebooks, made by Acer and Samsung, will go on sale on June 15, 2011. Unlike Windows 7 which use installed software like Microsoft Word, Google Chrome OS is built around web-based applications such as Google Docs.

A promotional video by Samsung Chromebook 5 series.

Chromebooks are built and optimized for the web, where you already spend most of your computing time. So you get a faster, simpler and more secure experience without all the headaches of ordinary computers. Acer and Samsung will be the first manufacturers to offer Google Chromebooks, for between US$349 and US$499, in the United States.

6 Reasons Why You Should Switch To Chromebook

Chromebooks boot in 8 seconds and resume instantly. As your Chromebook boots up, it quickly connects to your favorite wireless network so you’re on the web right from the start.

Chromebooks are designed to get faster over time as updates are released. Unlike Windows 7, your Chromebook gets better and better over time. When you turn it on, it updates itself automatically. All of your applications stay up-to-date, and you get the latest and greatest version of the operating system without having to think about it. There will be no annoying update prompts.

Your favorite websites load quickly and run smoothly, with full support for the latest web standards and Adobe Flash.

Chromebooks run the first consumer operating system designed from the ground up to defend against the ongoing threat of viruses and malware. They employ the principle of “defense in depth” to provide multiple layers of protection, including sandboxing, data encryption, and verified boot.

Every Chromebook runs millions of web apps, from games to spreadsheets to photo editors. Thanks to the power of HTML5, many apps keep working even in those rare moments when you’re not connected.

It’s easy to get connected anytime and anywhere with built-in Wi-Fi and 3G.

My Windows 7 takes more than 5 minutes to boot. That means Windows 7 is wasting 5 minutes of my precious time a day. With Chromebook, I am expected to 1825 minutes (30.4 hours) per year. If all you ever do is surfing the net, then you should consider switching to Google Chromebook.

Google I/O 2011

Mobile and desktop are converging on HTML5 as a strong, portable base for delivering rich experiences. Come learn about the future of HTML5, CSS, DOM, and JavaScript that will help you build better, richer apps even faster.

HTML 5 is the latest revision of the HTML standard that was originally created in 1990 and most recently standardized as HTML4 in 1997 and currently remains under development. Its core aims have been to improve the language with support for the latest multimedia while keeping it easily readable by humans and consistently understood by computers and devices (web browsers, parsers etc.). HTML5 is intended to subsume not only HTML4, but XHTML1 and DOM2HTML (particularly JavaScript) as well.

HTML5 introduces a number of new elements and attributes that reflect typical usage on modern websites. Some of them are semantic replacements for common uses of generic block (<div>) and inline (<span>) elements, for example <nav> (website navigation block), <footer> (usually referring to bottom of web page or to last lines of HTML code), or <audio> and <video> instead of <object>. Some deprecated elements from HTML 4.01 have been dropped, including purely presentational elements such as <font> and <center>, whose effects are achieved using Cascading Style Sheets. There is also a renewed emphasis on the importance of DOM scripting (e.g., JavaScript) in Web behavior.

The HTML5 syntax is no longer based on SGML despite the similarity of its markup. It has, however, been designed to be backward compatible with common parsing of older versions of HTML. It comes with a new introductory line that looks like an SGML document type declaration, <!DOCTYPE html>, which triggers the standards-compliant rendering mode. As of 5 January 2009, HTML5 also includes Web Forms 2.0, a previously separate WHATWG specification.

Abbottabad Is Not In The Outskirts of Islamabad, Yet It Has Been Called That All Over The Media

I have talked to a few random channels so far, it is hard to prioritize and is getting even harder to take out the time for it. I want to talk to them because there is too much misreporting and many distorted facts are being reported and repeated all over the world – for example, Abbottabad is not in the outskirts of Islamabad, yet it has ben called that all over the media, hence creating a mental link between the Pakistani capital city and how Osama was living in Islamabad all along.

The worst software in 2010 is Pligg CMS. It is a Digg-clone PHP script that allows users to bookmark their favorite websites. Unfortunately, spammers are abusing websites powered by Pligg to place hundred of thousands links to porn, drugs, gambling, very low-quality websites. This is a software that is the most-abused by spammers in 2010. That is the reason why I picked Pligg as the worst web software in 2010. I have nothing against the developers of Pligg as I think they did a great job with the software and I thank them for being generous by giving it for free. I myself was running a few dozen Pligg sites thinking that I could make a lot of money like the creator of Digg and Delicious. But I was wrong. I couldn’t make enough money from AdSense to cover for the domain registration and hosting costs. This year, I decided not to renew the domains I registered for Pligg-sites. That is why there are many Pligg sites out there that are no longer working. That was one of the wisest decisions I ever made in 2010. The only people who are benefiting from Pligg sites are spammers.

But if you want to collect the data of the IP addresses of web spammers, then this software without any doubt is the best out there. With this software, I have personally collected more than 50,000 IPs of spambots and spammers.
